With a 98% pass rate, The Independent School of Motoring is fast becoming one of Dublin's premier driving schools. We teach all aspects of driving from the complete beginner to advanced driving , including the driving test and motorway driving.

First established in 1994 with a staff of four people and four cars, we have expanded rapidly and now employ eighteen people and own twelve cars. Our head office is based in Finglas, beside the Test Centre. We service all areas of Dublin's North and Southside and have taken on clients as far afield as Naas, Wicklow Town and Navan.

All our instructors are required to reach a very high level of training and, in order to maintain this standard, Robert Byrne, our Training Supervisor, monitors and assesses all staff on an on-going basis. Instructors are paid performance-related bonuses to ensure these high standards are maintained.

Mary Barker, as Office Manager, takes responsibility for customer care. Our commitment to achieving a quality service, combined with value for money, is reflected in the fact that 50% of our clients come from student referrals. A trip to our recently refurbished offices, with its colourful display of thank-you cards from satisfied clients, ensures you a warm welcome from our Sales and Reception staff, Nicole and Catherine.

As a privately owned, rather than franchise, business we are in a unique position to offer that personal touch to all our clents.

Currently, we have contracts with many local businesses, where we have responsibility for assessing their drivers and bringing them up to acceptable grades. We supply cars and instructors and help to organise the Think Awareness road safety course - run and directed by ex-rally driver Rosemary Smith. The course is designed for Transition Year students and is subsidised by the Department of Education.

Tom Smyth, Director and owner of The Independent School of Motoring has been responsible for the expansion and restructuring of all aspects of the school over the past six years. As an instructor with over ten years experience, Tom takes overall control of the business but still finds time to conduct Mock Tests and do driving tuition.
